Before the usual Saturday Folly Beach crowds take over the beach, a group of women meet up to connect, share, and catch waves together. It's a joy to watch a couple of hours in the sea melt away some of the weight that they carry and joining them is becoming my favorite way to start the weekend. Waves 4 Women is a non profit therapeutic surf program for women that provides a combination of wellness education, surf and mindfulness instruction and practice, and community support. They work with women from all socioeconomic backgrounds and include women experiencing various stressors including trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, grief, life transitions, loneliness, poverty, and substance abuse.
